A tragic road crash in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State took the life of Ginika Ikegwuonu Okechukwu, a pregnant woman, and her driver. Her three children sustained serious injuries in the accident that occurred on Monday.
The Ondo State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps reported that the accident happened around 7.40am at the Ore tollgate on the Ore-Sagamu Expressway, involving a Lexus SUV with number plate KTU 141 FX and a truck with number plate EPE 72 SB.
Another crash occurred at Kilometre 115 on the Ore-Sagamu Expressway, close to the Ore tollgate around 1 pm, involving a Toyota Sienna space bus. The accident resulted in one fatality and six injuries, reportedly due to a tire blowout causing the driver to lose control, leading to the vehicle to somersault several times.
Mr. Segun Ogungbemide, the Head of Operations, FRSC in the state, confirmed the crashes and attributed them to excessive speed. He mentioned that the deceased were taken to the morgue of the Ore General Hospital, while the injured were also taken to the same hospital.
“The two fatal accidents are avoidable, because they occurred as a result of excessive speed by the drivers of the vehicles,” Ogungbemide emphasized.
He advised motorists to always adhere to traffic rules and regulations and avoid excessive speeding.
On Facebook, friends mourned the expectant mother. One friend, Onyinye Agbai, lamented the loss and revealed that the deceased had recently received the Lexus SUV as a gift from her husband.

On 25th DEC, when I visited Blessing Uzoka’s house, she mentioned that your husband had bought a new jeep for you, and we were planning to celebrate with you when you returned to Lagos. I also told her that I was eager to visit you and see your 4th baby since you were heavily pregnant. Oh, Death! How many times should I call you? You are so heartless. I promise that God Almighty will provide motherly love for your kids. We, the entire members of BIOSSAN Anambra state university Uli campus 2013 set, your husband, your lovely kids, and family members will forever miss you. Rest in peace, Ginika Okechukwu (Nee Ikegwuonu), Mummy Kamsiyochukwu, may your soul keep resting in the bosom of Almighty God until resurrection morning.”
