Call for Higher Budget Allocation to NEDC for Post-Insurgency Recovery

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is being urged by the Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria, KACRAN, to consider increasing the annual budget of the North-East Development Commission to effectively carry out a post-insurgency recovery program in the region.

In a statement released to the press in Damaturu on Friday, the National President of the Association, Khalil Mohd Bello, emphasized the need for a larger budget to empower the Commission’s board to continue its crucial work in reconstruction, development, and aid for internally displaced persons who have faced severe hardships due to insurgency.

Bello highlighted the NEDC’s commitment by stating that their support for security operations, including providing utility vehicles and necessary materials, has significantly strengthened the fight against insurgency, leading to noticeable improvements in regional security. This has resulted in the North-East no longer being seen as the epicenter of insecurity in the Northern part of Nigeria.

Recognizing the NEDC’s significant contribution to supplementing the policies and programs initiated by the Federal Government over the last four decades, Bello commended the Commission’s proactive approach to crucial matters regarding regional security and the well-being of its residents, underscoring its potential as a transformational entity for the North East and its people.

He also mentioned how KACRAN has directly benefited from the NEDC’s aid, receiving relief materials, water sources, livestock feed, and support for members affected by cattle rustling or insurgency.
