Appeal for Increased Budgetary Allocation to NEDC to Aid Post-insurgency Recovery

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is urged by the Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria, KACRAN, to consider a rise in the annual budget of the North-East Development Commission for a more effective implementation of recovery efforts following insurgency in the region.

In a statement to journalists in Damaturu on Friday, the National President of the Association, Khalil Mohd Bello, emphasized the importance of the increased budget. He believes it would enable the Commission’s governing board to carry on with its crucial tasks in reconstruction, development, and assistance for internally displaced persons who have endured great suffering due to the insurgency.

Bello highlighted the significant role of the NEDC in providing support for security operations by supplying utility vehicles and essential materials, which have greatly enhanced the fight against insurgency.

He stated, “As a result of this support, there have been notable improvements in regional security, with the North-East no longer being known as the epicenter of insecurity in the Northern part of Nigeria.”

The National President of KACRAN acknowledged the unparalleled contributions of the NEDC in complementing the policies and programs initiated by the Federal Government, which have been crucial for the region’s progress over the last four decades.

“The proactive approach of the Commission on matters crucial to regional security and the well-being of its residents demonstrates its potential as a transformative body for the North East and its populace,” he added.

Additionally, he mentioned that KACRAN had received assistance from the NEDC in the form of relief materials, water sources, livestock feed, and support for members affected by cattle rustling or insurgency.
