Police Officer Arrested for Assaulting a Ports Worker During Coronavirus Lockdown in Lagos

Following President Buhari’s lockdown order in Lagos, a police officer has been arrested for assaulting a ports worker who was picking up his friend, an employee of a medical equipment company.

President Buhari had exempted seaports in Lagos from the lockdown, along with hospitals, medical establishments, and healthcare-related manufacturing and distribution organizations.

Nigerian rapper Ruggedman brought the assault incident to the attention of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) via Twitter, identifying the police officer as M. Aliu and reporting that the assault took place at Area M command, Idimu.

Head of the NPF Complaint Response Unit (CRU), ACP Markus Ishaku Basiran, responded to the video, confirming the arrest and detention of the erring police officer, who is now awaiting trial.
