Police apprehend suspect who abducted self, family members in Delta

A suspect, Eseoghene Ezekiel Obeje, who allegedly orchestrated his own abduction and demanded the sum of N500,000 as ransom, is assisting Delta State Police Command in its investigation.

While investigating the murder of one Regina Ogana, who was kidnapped alongside her spouse and other members of her family, the command received another distress call from the husband of the deceased. He reported that one of his siblings, Eseoghene Ezekiel Obeje, 28, made a suspicious phone call claiming to be abducted and demanding a ransom of N500,000.

The money was transferred into Obeje’s bank account as the agreed ransom.

Commissioner of Police Wale Abass ordered the DPO Oreropke Division to conduct an intelligence-led investigation and ensure the arrest of the culprits.

Acting on information obtained through technical methods, the Divisional Anti-Crime Patrol team, headed by the DPO, CSP Paul E. Oboware, raided the Odovie community in Ughelli North LGA. They apprehended Obeje at the exact location where N1,300,000 was previously paid as ransom for the release of his older brother and the deceased’s husband.

DSP Edafe Bright, the Delta Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed that investigations revealed Obeje, a member of Eiye Confraternity, staged his own abduction and is also suspected of plotting the kidnapping of his sibling and other family members, including his wife, Regina Ogana, who tragically lost her life at the hands of her captors.

The suspect is currently in custody, and investigations are ongoing.
