Police in Niger Recover AK-47 Rifle and Neutralise Bandit

Following a gun battle, the Niger State Police Command neutralized a suspected armed bandit and recovered an AK-47 rifle near Tunga-Umoru village, through Pissa District in the Borgu Local Government Area on Wednesday. Other bandits involved in the confrontation fled with varying degrees of injuries.

These details were revealed in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, in Minna. According to him, “On 21/02/2024 at about 1030hrs, information was received that four suspected kidnappers had threatened a businessman in Bako-Mission village, Pissa District of Borgu LGA, demanding three million naira within three days at a specific location around Tunga-Umoru village, or else he would be kidnapped.”

Upon receiving the information, the police tactical team, accompanied by vigilante members led by the DPO New-Bussa Div, swiftly mobilized to the indicated location. “They adopted appropriate operational strategy and engaged the kidnappers in a gun battle, during which a female victim, approximately 22 years old and previously kidnapped, was successfully rescued unharmed,” the PPRO added.

Moreover, the team combed the area and neutralized one of the bandits during the skirmish, recovering his AK-47 rifle with an empty magazine. The statement further reported, “Other members of the gang fled with gunshot injuries, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend them. Public confidence has been restored, and the area has been secured.”
