Police in Lagos apprehend phony medical doctor and close down clinic

On Tuesday, a 37-year-old fake medical practitioner was arrested by the Zone 2 Police Command in Onikan, Lagos. The suspect is believed to possess forged certificates.

Confirmation of the arrest was made by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Olatoye Durosinmi, during a press briefing in Lagos.

The suspect, who goes by the name of the Managing Director of Skylink Medical Centre in Ikorodu, was apprehended by the Zonal Anti-Piracy Unit based on information from the Elepe community regarding the suspect’s activities.

Following the intelligence, a team of detectives led by SP Mariam Ogunmolasuyi took swift action, leading to the suspect’s arrest. During a search, two suspected forged certificates from Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, Osun State, and the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) were recovered.

In addition to the forged certificates, various hospital equipment was also seized. The hospital premises have been sealed off pending further investigation.

According to Durosinmi, the suspect admitted to digitally producing the certificates, acknowledging that he had not obtained any degrees from the university or valid certification from MDCN, possessing only a West African School Certificate (WASC).

Further revelations from the suspect indicate that his team consisted of six individuals, including two trained nurses and four amateurs. He disclosed that prior to starting his own medical center, he worked as a Nursing Assistant at Fabo Medical Centre in the Majidun area of Lagos.
