Police in Borno detain nine protestors for exhibiting Russian flags

Confirmation has been received from the Borno State Police Command regarding the apprehension of nine protestors due to their alleged display of Russian flags in Maiduguri.

The state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr Yusuf Lawal, disclosed this information during a situation update on Tuesday in Maiduguri, the capital city.

These individuals were taken into custody in the Zannari Tamsu locality of Gwange Ward, Maiduguri on August 5, 2024.

Lawal further mentioned that the detainees were named as Khalafi Abdulhamid, Mohammed Abubakar, Mohamed Ibrahim, and Abba Hassan, all residing in the Zannari Tamsu vicinity.

Furthermore, an additional group of five protestors was captured in the Bulumkutu zone of Maiduguri while carrying Russian flags.

According to Lawal, the group consisting of Bashir Ahmad, Musa Lawan, Abba Mallam, Habibu Auwal, and Inusa Abdullahi was handed over to the Crack Squad for a thorough investigation and prosecution process.

The commissioner assured that the protest scenario remained peaceful, emphasizing that law enforcement will continue to conduct monitoring and patrols within the area to safeguard public welfare.
