Police in Adamawa Arrest 3 in Mubi in Ongoing Battle Against Phone Thieves


Expanding its crackdown on a group known as Shila Boys, the Adamawa State Police Command has taken the fight against phone snatchers to Mubi, a major urban area in the state, in addition to Yola, the capital.

Shila Boys, who target valuable cell phones, are predominantly active in urban regions like Yola North, Yola South, and Girei. However, they are now spreading their activities to other key locations in Adamawa State, including Mubi North, Mubi South, and Numan LGAs.

Following security surveillance operations in Mubi on Saturday, May 4, three suspects were apprehended by the police.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Nguroje, stated, “In response to the increasing criminal activities associated with the Shila Boys in Adamawa state, the police have expanded their operations to Mubi North and South.”

“This action led to the arrest of three individuals connected to Shila-related crimes,” the statement added.

Identifying the suspects as Muktari Aminu, Ibrahim Abubakar, and Suleiman Iliya, the police outlined their respective ages and places of residence in Mubi.

The statement detailed how the suspects, on May 4, 2024, targeted and stole a phone from Holy Ishyaku, a student at the College of Health and Technology in Mubi.

“The suspects were apprehended immediately after the incident,” the police emphasized.

Assuring the public of their commitment to tackling criminal activities and ensuring community safety, the police reiterated their dedication to safeguarding all residents.
