The authorities in Ogun State have detained an alleged repeat car thief known as Sunday Dosunmu.
The 53-year-old individual was apprehended in Leme, Abeokuta, while attempting to remove vehicles using locally-made skeleton keys.
Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, informed reporters that the suspect was caught in the act on Saturday at approximately 7:30 pm.
As per her, the suspect had previously been arrested for a comparable offense on September 17, 2022, at Olorunsogo “while attempting to steal a vehicle from a parking lot alongside his criminal group.”
On Saturday, individuals raised the alarm when he was spotted near the car, but he fled.
“The young individuals pursued him aggressively and apprehended him. They subsequently alerted the police team that visited the scene and seized the suspect,” Odutola disclosed, adding that “two fabricated metal master keys were found in his possession as part of the tool used to unlock unsuspecting car owners’ vehicles.”
She stated that once the investigation is complete, the suspect will be prosecuted in court.
