Peter Obi Criticizes Tinubu for Large Contingent at Climate Change Conference in Dubai

The Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has criticized President Bola Tinubu for bringing a large number of delegates to the ongoing Climate Change Conference, COP28, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Obi’s statement came after reports revealed that Tinubu arrived in Dubai with 1,411 delegates, as listed by the UN Climate Change, making him the African leader with the highest entourage and the third largest representation among global countries attending the conference.

This action has sparked criticism of Tinubu’s administration, with many accusing the government of engaging in wasteful spending.

Reacting to the development on Sunday, Obi expressed his dismay, noting that the extensive contingent was funded with public money at a time when most Nigerians were struggling to afford essential needs due to economic hardships.

Obi also questioned why Nigeria had a delegation matching China’s total number of contingents when it has more people living in ‘Multi-Dimensional’ poverty than China.

He highlighted the disparity in budget allocation between China and Nigeria, emphasizing the need for Nigeria to focus on improving productivity and uplifting its citizens out of poverty.

Obi stressed the urgency of curbing government waste, prioritizing national needs, and investing in production to create a more efficient and cost-effective governance system in Nigeria.
