Peter Obi: Concerns Over Increasing Use of Boats in Foreign Currency Ransom Kidnappings

Making a statement, former Labour Party presidential candidate Mr. Peter Obi highlighted the dire socio-economic consequences of the escalating trend of using boats for kidnappings and demanding ransom payments in foreign currency.

In response to the recent abduction of Fouani Company’s Managing Director, Mohamed Fouani, and three other Lebanese individuals in Lagos, Obi expressed profound sorrow.

He emphasized the urgent need to address the prevailing insecurity that continues to disrupt the nation, destabilize the economy, and jeopardize national unity.

Further, Obi strongly condemned the violent incident in Dudun Doki village, Gwadabawa local government area of Sokoto State, where armed gunmen reportedly killed more than ten people and abducted numerous others.

Former Governor of Anambra State, Obi stressed the imperative for the country to eradicate these terror attacks and prevent further loss of innocent lives.

Reflecting on the dire situation, Obi stated, “The emergence of the use of boats for kidnappings and demands for foreign currency ransoms unveils a more disturbing facet of the security challenges we are grappling with, intensifying socio-economic repercussions.”

He continued, “Today, amidst what should be a day of sanctity, we witnessed the tragic assault on Dudun Doki village in Sokoto State, underscoring the urgent need to combat these terror acts and safeguard lives.”

Calling for immediate action, Obi urged for intensified efforts towards the safe rescue of Mr. Fouani and all those held in captivity by their abductors.

He also urged the government and security agencies to implement stringent measures to address the prevailing insecurity in the nation, stating, “May we find solace in the divine intervention as we fervently pray for our dear nation.”
