Protesters Flood Edo House of Assembly Over Soaring Cost of Living
Angry traders took to the streets of Benin City to protest the skyrocketing prices of essential goods in the state, causing massive disruption on Monday.
These demonstrators represented the Traders’ Welfare Union of Nigeria, Edo State chapter, and the Ekiosa Market Traders Association.
Blaming market unions for the inflation in food prices statewide, the protesters targeted the Edo State House of Assembly and the Nigeria Union of Journalists’ Secretariat.
The aggrieved traders lamented the neglect of Ekiosa market by the state government since it was destroyed in a fire some years back.
