After Workers’ Protest, Nigerian Government Reveals Next Steps on Electricity Tariff Hike
Despite the passage of time, the controversy surrounding the recent electricity tariff increase in Nigeria is still a hot topic. On Monday, Nigerian workers took to the streets to demand a reversal of the hike, disrupting activities in the power sector.
The organized labour, led by NLC President Joe Ajaero, staged protests at the offices of all eleven Electricity Distribution Companies and the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC). Offices of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company were also affected by the protests, causing disruption in their operations.
Similar protests were carried out in various parts of the country, including Kwara, Lagos, Kaduna, Plateau, Enugu, and Sokoto, targeting the offices of the eleven discos.
