An unfortunate incident occurred in Thailand as a British man lost his life while celebrating the New Year. 50-year-old Gary McLaren was with his Thai fiancée and friends at Pattaya, eastern Thailand, when a firework exploded in his face, causing fatal injuries. Eyewitnesses reported that he was attempting to light a 50cm cardboard tube packed with fireworks outside a bar before the tragic incident happened. Despite efforts from police and medics, McLaren was pronounced dead at the scene. His devastated fiancée, Jasmine, mourned his death on social media. The British Embassy in Bangkok has been notified of the incident.

On New Year's Day, a woman recounted receiving an insensitive comment.   Criticized by a follower, who commented that she had moved on quickly after her mother's passing months ago.   "Didn't you lose your mum this year? You've moved on already, I guess," the insensitive follower wrote.     Twitter users expressed horror over the comment.
