Pope Francis, the leader of the Roman Catholic Church, was captured in an angry exchange as he attempted to free his hand from a woman’s grip when she grabbed him while he was happily greeting children and pilgrims in St. Peter’s Square on Tuesday.
The 83-year-old Pope was on his way to the Nativity scene at the center of Vatican City when the woman’s action prompted him to react by slapping her hand and expressing his displeasure at her.
The incident left many wondering about the woman’s intent, especially as she made a sign of the cross before reaching for the Pope’s hand.
