Verdict: NDDC Employee Gets 7-Year Jail Term for N4m Contract Fraud

A supervisor employed in the Security Department of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, has been handed a seven-year prison sentence due to involvement in a N4m contract fraud.   Tarila Ebizimor was found guilty of fraudulent collection of N4,000,000 (Four Million Naira) through false pretences.   The convict was arraigned by the Port Harcourt Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on four counts.   As per the EFCC, Tarila Ebizimor falsely represented himself as a personal assistant to the managing director of the NDDC in August 2013 and received N4million from the complainant, claiming to be able to secure a road construction contract for him.   One of the charges leveled against him states: "That you Tarila Ebizimor on the 13th da...

Law enforcement officers from Anti Kidnapping Unit, Lagos State Police Command have apprehended 26-year-old Ataghar Namdoo, who allegedly orchestrated her own kidnapping.   According to a statement released by the spokesperson of the state police command, Bala Elkana, on January 9th, Ataghar supposedly colluded with her boyfriend, Emmanuel Idu, and Okpe David to create a short video showing her blindfolded and transported to a bush in the Sangotedo area of Ajah, a suburb in the state. The video depicted a masked man holding a Jack knife and threatening to kill Ataghar.   Bala stated that the men sent two videos to the lady's employer, threatening to harm her and her family if a ransom of N10 million was not paid.
