Ambulance conveying corpse of Catholic Priest's mother gutted by fire (photos)

The fire gutted an ambulance transporting the body of Mrs. Onyemata, the mother of Rev. Fr. Alex Onyemata, a Catholic priest from the Okigwe Catholic Diocese in Imo State. The incident occurred over the weekend as the ambulance was en route to Mercy Mortuary in Umulogho community, Obowo. The fire was caused by a petrol leakage, but thankfully the corpse was rescued from the flames. Eyewitnesses shared that family members and other mourners had to walk with the stretcher carrying the corpse to the mortuary after the fire incident on the Owerri-Umuahia expressway. Photos of the incident show the dramatic scene of the fiery ambulance.

The Lagos State Government has pulled down the statue of Fela Kuti at Allen Avenue, Ikeja, two years after it was commissioned by former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode. The governor's spokesperson, Gboyega Akosile, confirmed the removal, citing the roundabout's contribution to traffic congestion as the reason behind the decision. The Lagos State Government Pulls Down Fela’s Statue at Allen Avenue (see photos)

After two years since former Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode commissioned the statue of Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti at Allen Avenue in Ikeja, the state's government has removed the monument.    Gboyega Akosile, the spokesperson for Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu confirmed the removal of the statue, stating that the roundabout where the statue was located was identified by the current administration as one of the major causes of traffic congestion in the state.    Other roundabouts causing gridlock in the state were reported to be situated at Ikotun, Lekki-Epe expressway, and Maryland.
