The Lagos State Government Pulls Down Fela’s Statue at Allen Avenue (see photos)

After two years since former Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode commissioned the statue of Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti at Allen Avenue in Ikeja, the state’s government has removed the monument.

Gboyega Akosile, the spokesperson for Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu confirmed the removal of the statue, stating that the roundabout where the statue was located was identified by the current administration as one of the major causes of traffic congestion in the state.

Other roundabouts causing gridlock in the state were reported to be situated at Ikotun, Lekki-Epe expressway, and Maryland. Akosile also informed the media that the artwork will be relocated to a spot where it won’t cause traffic jams.
