Following a gun battle with Special troops of the Nigerian Navy on Tuesday, January 7, one of the sea pirates responsible for killing 4 Nigerian Navy personnel and kidnapping 3 foreigners at Agge in Bayelsa state has been apprehended. The confrontation occurred after the Nigerian Navy Forward Operations Base (FOB) Igbokoda at its Awoye outpost received intelligence about an approaching speed boat suspected to be carrying kidnappers and victims of kidnapping at around 11pm. Mass Communication unbundled by NUC, no longer to be studied as a single course

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has declared that Mass Communication will no longer be offered as a single course of study in Nigerian universities. The commission's Secretary, Prof. Abubakar Rasheed, made this announcement on behalf of the commission, stating that the new directive will come into effect from March 2020. Additionally, he revealed that a new curricula for communication studies will be provided to professors and communication practitioners in Nigeria. JAMB orders ABU to offer girl medicine after being accused of denying her the course because she is a Christian

The request from the Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, for the management of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) to grant admission in Medicine to Miss Shekwobyalo, came after a review meeting with various stakeholders. Despite her UTME score of 309, Miss Shekwobyalo accused the university of denying her admission in medicine because of her Christian faith. However, after the meeting, it was revealed that she was not the top candidate from Niger state.
