Drug Bust in the Philippines: Nigerian Man and Malagasy Partner Apprehended with N489 Million Worth of Illicit Substances

An apprehension in Quezon City, Philippines, resulted in the arrest of a Nigerian man and his Malagasy partner found in possession of illicit drugs valued at around 489 million Naira.   Likewise residing at the same location in Cavite, Nigerian Lawrence Ikegwuruka Obinna, 27, and Michaella Agustine, 23, from Madagascar, were apprehended following a three-month surveillance operation.     The arrest was made on February 11, during a buy-bust operation in Quezon City, by the Joint Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and Philippine National Police operatives. A Nigerian man has taken to Facebook to plead for assistance after reportedly falling victim to "kidnapping and robbery" of N125k by certain police officers.   Fedeco Godwin claims that the officers who committed the alleged act are associated with the Ologbo Divisional police station in Edo State. Two letter bombs exploded at postal offices in the Netherlands. The explosions occurred after suspected letter bombs were delivered. The blasts took place at two separate mail depots, one in Amsterdam city center and the other in the city of Kerkrade, located 120 miles to the south. The first explosion happened around 8am on Wednesday (Feb. 12) in a business park in west Amsterdam. The second explosion in Kerkrade occurred shortly after. FEC Observes One Minute Silence for Victims of Fresh Boko Haram Attack in Borno, Osinbajo Presides

This morning, the Federal Executive Council, chaired by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, observed a minute of silence to mourn the over 30 people who were killed in the Boko Haram attack in Auno on Sunday, February 9th. Auno is a town near Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.   The insurgents carried out the attack around 9pm, burning over 30 people to death and abducting several others.   Vice President Yemi Osinbajo presided over the session as President Major General Buhari is currently in Ethiopia.

Court imposes N200,000 fine on FG for “frivolous adjournment” in Sowore case

Today, Wednesday February 12th, Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu of the Federal High Court in Abuja fined the Federal Government N200,000 for causing an unnecessary adjournment of the trial of publisher and convener of #RevolutionNow Movement, Omoyele Sowore.   The trial of Sowore proceeded this morning, but the prosecution team requested an adjournment shortly after the court proceedings began.   Expressing displeasure, Justice Ojukwu deemed the prosecution’s adjournment request as frivolous and rescheduled the trial for Thursday February 13th.
