Protest in Adamawa as Youths Block Highway over Kidnappings, Accuse Police of Complicity
Hundreds of Adamawa youths took to the streets on Tuesday to block the federal highway passing through Girei community to Yola, the state capital, and other parts of the state as a demonstration against the high rate of kidnappings in the area.
Originating from Girei Local Government Area, the youths left many travelers and motorists stranded and declared that they would only clear the road after receiving a satisfactory response from authorities, particularly the Governor or Commissioner of Police, regarding their distress over the menace.
Saidu Hamman-Girei, the spokesperson for the youth and also the Youth leader, (Sarkin Matasa) of Girei District, disclosed that about 10 individuals in the community recently fell victim to kidnappers.
