The Plight of Phone Repairers Amid Benue Urban Development Board’s Demolition Drive
Emotions ran high in Makurdi town as phone repairers watched in dismay while their shops were unexpectedly demolished by the Benue State Urban Development Board (BNUDB) in various parts of the town.
The affected areas, which include Katsina-Ala, Vandeikya streets, and Tito in Makurdi town, witnessed the demolition exercise.
One of the members of the demolition team, Mr. Ajai Bernard, defended the action by stating that besides enhancing the aesthetic appeal of Makurdi as a State Capital, the demolition was necessary due to safety concerns posed by shops built near electric transformers, obstruction of residential buildings, a rise in criminal activities, and unnecessary traffic congestion in the affected zones.
