Directive from Nigerian Government Prohibits Use of Imported Syringes and Needles in Tertiary Hospitals
An official order has been issued by the Federal Government, instructing all Chief Medical Directors (CMDs) and Medical Directors (MDs) of Federal Tertiary Hospitals to exclusively obtain needles and syringes from locally-approved manufacturers certified by NAFDAC.
This directive was communicated in a circular sent to all CMDs and MDs and was signed by the Minister of State for Health, Tunji Alausa, in Abuja on Friday.
The primary objective of this measure is to enhance local production and protect the country's manufacturing industry from the influx of foreign products.
Additionally, the circular tasks NAFDAC with ceasing the issuance of licenses for the importation of needles and syringes manufactured abroad.
