Ekiti Agro Marshals Launched by Oyebanji to Safeguard Farmlands, Schools, Palaces

Ensuring a safer environment is a top priority for Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, who recently inaugurated the Ekiti Agro Marshals. Their main task is to protect farmlands, schools, and palaces throughout the state, aiming to create a conducive environment for farming and enhance food security.

During the passing out parade of the Marshals in Ado-Ekiti, the governor emphasized that this local security outfit is meant to complement the efforts of the police and other security agencies in combating criminal activities in the state.

Following the president’s directive to governors to establish a special guard for farmlands and forests, the decision to create the Agro Marshals was influenced by suggestions from the security council and traditional rulers in the state.

Governor Oyebanji stressed the significance of securing agricultural resources, educational institutions, and cultural heritage sites for sustainable development and communal harmony. The primary mandate of the marshals is to safeguard farmlands, palaces, and schools across Ekiti State.

He reiterated his government’s commitment to ensuring the safety of citizens and their property, expressing confidence that with effective collaboration between the Marshals and other security agencies, Ekiti will become the safest place in the country.

Highlighting the collaborative nature of the initiative involving the state, local government, and traditional institutions, the Governor emphasized the importance of protecting farmers’ lives to enhance safety on farms and improve food production and security.

Addressing the Marshals, Governor Oyebanji urged them to carry out their duties diligently while respecting the fundamental rights of citizens and operating within the confines of the country’s constitution.

The Commander of the Marshals, Rtd. ACP Olamide Oni, commended the Governor for prioritizing the security of the state’s residents and assured that the marshals have been adequately trained to fulfill their responsibilities effectively.

Chairman of the Council of Traditional Rulers, Oba Ilori Faboro, conveyed gratitude on behalf of all royal fathers in the state for the Governor’s efforts in maintaining Ekiti as one of the safest states in the country. He pledged the royal fathers’ support to the marshals in ensuring peace on farmlands and forests across the state.
