Osun State Amotekun Apprehends Alleged Fraudster

An individual suspected of fraud, aged 51 and identified as Adegboroye Adetola Akinola, has been captured by the operatives of Osun State Amotekun.

The Osun State Amotekun Corps Commander, retired Brigadier General Bashir Adewinmbi, disclosed this development on Sunday.

General Adewinmbi also revealed that Akinola, a native of Igbara Odo in Ekiti State, was apprehended for allegedly deceiving nine individuals of the amount of N1,597,000 in the Oluyole area of Ibadan, Oyo State. He purported to be facilitating the registration of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and international passports.

The Amotekun Intelligence Operatives swiftly took action to apprehend Akinola after one of the victims reported the incident to the Amotekun Ayedaade Command in Gbongan.

During the investigation, it was discovered that the suspect had changed his phone number and relocated from Ibadan to Igbara-Odo in Ekiti State. He was lured to Gbongan by his girlfriend for a supposed business opportunity, leading to his subsequent arrest.

The suspect is facing charges related to criminal conspiracy, fraud, impersonation, deceit, cheating, and identity theft. He operated under various aliases and used different bank account numbers to carry out his fraudulent activities.

Further probing revealed that the suspect went by aliases such as Ayodeji Harry-young and Samuel Ayodeji, possessing multiple phone numbers and ATM cards with varying names which he utilized for his unlawful deeds. He confessed to affiliating with fraudulent gangs in Ekiti State since 2003,” Adewinmbi stated.

Adewinmbi emphasized that the arrest showcases the dedication of the Osun State Amotekun Corps in combatting crimes in the region, ensuring the safety and security of lives and property.

The suspect has been transferred to the Oyo State Amotekun Command for additional questioning and legal proceedings.
