An individual named Damilare Jacob, aged 29, has been apprehended by the Osun State Police Command on suspicion of being involved in a rape and armed robbery case.
The spokesperson for the Command, Yemisi Opalola, disclosed this development during the parade of suspects at the state police headquarters on Wednesday.
It was revealed by Opalola that Damilare, who works as a commercial motorcyclist, allegedly committed the crimes of robbery and forced sexual intercourse with a student from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile-Ife.
The student, whose identity was not revealed, had utilized Damilare’s services on the evening of Friday, July 26, 2024, at around 7:05 pm.
Damilare was supposed to transport her from Ile-Ife to Moro town, but he diverted the route into a nearby wooded area.
Following the robbery, Damilare proceeded to have non-consensual sexual intercourse with the student, in addition to cutting hair from her pubic area, armpit, and head. He then issued threats to harm her if she reported the incident to anyone.
“On the 26th of July, 2024, at approximately 7:05 pm, the complainant engaged the services of a commercial motorcyclist (suspect) later identified as Damilare Jacob ‘m’ from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Campus, Ile-Ife, to Moro town. However, upon reaching the RCC junction along Ilesa/Ibadan Expressway, Ile-Ife, the suspect diverted into a nearby wooded area where he robbed her of various items, forcefully engaged in sexual activity without her consent, and inflicted harm by cutting her pubic hair, armpit hair, and head hair, along with threatening her with dire consequences if she disclosed the incident,” the police statement detailed.
The victim was subsequently taken to the Police hospital in Osogbo for assessment and necessary medical attention.
“The suspect was later apprehended and he admitted to committing this heinous act,” the statement added.
Opalola confirmed that the suspect will face legal charges once the investigation is concluded.
