Nothing must stop Anambra governorship election – Buhari tells service chiefs

President Muhammadu Buhari has reportedly given a directive to service chiefs to ensure the smooth conduct of the Anambra government election scheduled for November 6. This directive was disclosed by National Security Adviser (NSA), Major General Babagana Monguno (rtd) after the security meeting chaired by the president.

Monguno stated that the directive was issued due to an increase in attacks allegedly carried out by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). He emphasized the president’s instructions to prevent any disruption of the election and to uphold the people’s right to vote and choose their leaders.

He further noted the president’s insistence on preventing any individual or group from inciting chaos and anarchy, which could lead to violent activities. The Armed Forces and law enforcement agencies were tasked with ensuring the successful conduct of the elections, even if it required overwhelming security presence.

Touching on the military’s achievements in the fight against insurgency in the North East, Monguno highlighted their successes in the last two months. Additionally, Minister of Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi, expressed the police’s readiness to maintain peace in Anambra and other parts of the country, particularly emphasizing the government’s commitment to conducting free and fair elections.

It was stressed that the government would deploy necessary measures to secure the people and ensure the promotion of democracy and good governance in the country.
