No law in Nigeria mandates Buhari to publicly declare his asset – Femi Adesina fires back at SERAP

The spokesperson of President Buhari, Femi Adesina, has responded to the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) regarding the ultimatum given to public office holders to publicly declare their assets. Adesina stated that there is no legal basis for asking the President, his Vice, state governors, and their deputies to publicly declare their assets.

During an appearance on Channels Television, Adesina emphasized that President Buhari has already declared his assets and questioned the legal justification for public declaration. He explained that while the president is required by law to declare his assets, there is no mandate for public disclosure. Adesina suggested that if the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act is invoked, the Code of Conduct Bureau would handle the release of the declaration already submitted by the president.
