Nigerians Urged to Stay Alert during Easter, Says DSS

Encouraging vigilance, the Department of State Services has called on Nigerians to maintain awareness during the Easter festivities.

Citizens are also advised to promptly report any criminal activities attempted during this period.

In a statement released on Friday, the Director of Public Relations and Strategic Communications at the Department of State Services, Peter Afunanya, shared this advice.

According to the statement, “It is important for everyone to stay alert and report any security breaches to the appropriate law enforcement agencies. The DSS provides public guidance through its website www.dss.gov.ng; email address- [email protected] and contact numbers +234915 339 1309; +234 908 837 3514.”

Afunanya specifically advised Christian individuals in the nation to steer clear of illicit substances and excessive alcohol consumption, among other things.

He emphasized, “Additionally, it is vital for celebrants to refrain from engaging in activities like drug abuse, excessive drinking, and to reject all forms of discrimination and social misconduct during the celebrations. It is urged for them to reaffirm their dedication to fostering peace, unity, and inclusivity in Nigeria.”

He further encouraged Christians to emulate the teachings and behavior of Jesus Christ in their daily lives.

Afunanya mentioned, “The Director General, Management and Staff of the Department of State Services extend their greetings to the Christian community during the Easter celebration. They also urge all Nigerians to draw inspiration from the patience and humility exhibited by Jesus Christ and apply these values in their daily routines.

“During this occasion which symbolizes sacrifice and forgiveness, citizens are reminded to realign their love for one another, their country, and humanity in general. They are advised to practice self-restraint, integrity, and empathy in their interactions. Furthermore, they are urged to avoid harboring resentment, disloyalty, spreading false information, promoting hate speech, and inciting violence.”

Reports from NewsNow state that on March 8, 2024, the DSS cautioned the public to remain vigilant against potential public threats, particularly Improvised Explosive Devices.

The service also recommended that Nigerians steer clear of densely populated or suspicious areas.
