The Chadian military achieved a significant triumph in their ongoing battle against the Boko Haram insurgency when the President of Chad, Iddris Deby, personally led soldiers in a campaign against the insurgents.
President Deby initiated the offensive against Boko Haram in retaliation for an ambush that resulted in the deaths of over 90 Chadian soldiers at the hands of the terrorists. He characterized this as the most severe attack ever suffered by the country’s military and pledged to ensure the complete eradication of Boko Haram in the Lake Chad region.
The operation took place in the vicinity of Lake Chad and resulted in the capture of a senior Boko Haram commander, as well as the seizure of weapons from the insurgents’ arsenal.
A group of Nigerian soldiers was observed cheering the Chadian troops as they were led into battle by their President. One of the Nigerian soldiers was overheard saying, “These are Chadian soldiers, look at their tanks. They are about to advance.”
