Nigerian Premier Football League penalizes Kwara United with N6m for violating broadcast rules and spreading false information

Kwara United has been fined N6 million by the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) for interfering with the live broadcast of their match against Akwa United on matchday 31. Additionally, the team was found guilty of disseminating false information that resulted in a change in the fixture schedule.

The Harmony Boys had requested a rescheduling of their match against Akwa United from Saturday, April 20 to Sunday, April 21, citing a letter claiming that the state government had scheduled an event at the stadium.

The fine was communicated to the club via a memo. According to the memo, Kwara United violated Rule C1.1 of the NPFL Frameworks and Rules by submitting a late request to reschedule the fixture based on false pretenses and fabricated documents, which could harm the reputation of the game.

Furthermore, the club breached Rule B6.23 of the NPFL Frameworks and Rules by disrupting the live broadcast of the game on Thursday, April 18, with false claims regarding the availability of their home ground.

Kwara United has a 48-hour window to appeal the decision.
