Nigerian government keeps former Kogi governor, Yahaya Bello under surveillance

Recent reports confirm that the immediate-past governor of Kogi state, Yahaya Bello, has been placed on the watchlist by the Federal Government.

Security agencies have been duly informed, with specific orders given to the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, to apprehend him should he attempt to enter or exit the country.

This directive was issued by the Comptroller General of Immigration Service, Kemi Nanna Nandap, through an official memorandum.

The memorandum was dispatched to the Director General of the Department of State Services, DSS, the Inspector General of Police, and the Director General of the National Intelligence Agency, NIA.

Signed by ACI DS Umar, the memo contained detailed information about Bello’s international passport.

Part of the message read: “I have been mandated to notify you that the aforementioned individual has been placed on the watchlist.

“It is important to note that the individual is currently facing legal proceedings at the Federal High Court in Abuja for Conspiracy, Breach of Trust, and Money Laundering as outlined in letter Ref; CR; 3000/EFCC/LS/EGCS.1/TE/V1/279 dated 18 April 2024. Should he be identified at any point of entry or exit, immediate arrest is essential, and he should be directed to the Director of Investigation or contact 08036226329/07039617304 for further guidance.

“Kindly acknowledge the Comptroller General’s warmest regards and respect as usual.”

These developments follow the recent declaration by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, labeling Bello as a wanted individual on Thursday.
