Three Arrested in Connection with Kidnapping and Murder of 19-Year-Old Undergraduate in Edo

Authorities in Edo State have apprehended a native doctor, Chukwuyem Jonah, aged 26, along with two accomplices for their suspected involvement in the death of Faith Omodon, a 200-level student from Delta State University.

According to the State Commissioner of Police, Funsho Adegboye, who briefed the press in Benin City, the arrests were made as part of a larger operation that led to the detention of 11 individuals.

The two other suspects implicated in the tragic incident are Godspower Chukwuedo, 23, and Christopher Nwachukwu, 22.

Community members from Iru Egbede expressed concern when Omodon, a business administration student, went missing after she failed to return from a farm visit on March 30, 2024.

Law enforcement, supported by a local vigilante group, acted swiftly following a report filed by Omodon’s father, Edward Omodon, ultimately leading to the apprehension of the suspects.

Upon investigation, it was revealed that Chukwuyem Jonah allegedly orchestrated the abduction and subsequent death of Omodon, offering a monetary reward of N30,000 to the other suspects to carry out the sinister act.

Both Chukwuedo and Nwachukwu confessed to their roles in the crime, detailing how they were coerced into the scheme by the native doctor.

Despite denials by Jonah regarding his involvement, authorities are pressing forward with the case and are determined to uncover the truth surrounding Omodon’s demise.

Family members, including Edward Omodon, are seeking justice for the slain student and are urging the government to ensure that those responsible face appropriate consequences for their actions.
