Nasir El-Rufai’s Stance on Being a Godfather

During a recent Capacity-Enhancement Workshop for Senior Government Officials in Borno State, the immediate past governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, made it clear that he has no intentions of becoming a godfather to any governor in the state.

El-Rufai mentioned that since his tenure ended almost a year ago, he has only visited Kaduna five times.

Expressing his views, he stated, “I have no desire to be a godfather, which is why I refrain from interfering in Kaduna’s affairs. I expect the governor to learn and perform his duties independently.”

Emphasizing the importance of good leadership, El-Rufai highlighted, “Effective leadership requires the ability to surround oneself with competent individuals who can execute tasks efficiently.”

He further added, “Even the most skilled leader cannot accomplish everything alone, as the quality of those around you significantly impacts the outcomes. This underscores the importance of a capable civil service in a nation’s development.”
