The announcement from Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), designating March 26th, 2024 as a day without lectures, was made to honor the students who tragically lost their lives during a recent stampede while palliatives were being distributed.

In a letter signed by the Registrar, Bala I. Ahmen, and released to NewsNow, the university declared this day as a period for both the administration and students to mourn those who perished in the stampede on Friday, March 22, 2024. It is also a time to offer prayers for the recovery of those currently undergoing treatment for injuries resulting from the incident.

“In humble submission to the divine will, this official communication serves to inform all students that Tuesday, March 26, 2024, has been marked as a day free of lectures to honor the memories of our late students, Grace Danladi, a 200-level Computer Science student, and Rose Michael, a 400-level Psychology student. They tragically lost their lives during the distribution of government-donated palliatives on March 22, 2024,” the letter stated.

The message continued, “This period allows us to mourn the passing of our colleagues and to offer prayers for the speedy recovery of those injured in the unfortunate incident. May the souls of the departed find peace, and may their families find strength to endure this painful loss,” the letter concluded.
