Meta Launches AI Services in Nigeria and 11 Other Countries

Expanding its reach beyond the United States, Meta, the company known for Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram, has introduced its AI service, Meta AI, in 12 countries around the world.

These countries include Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, Canada, Australia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, and several others.

The introduction, initially available in English, is designed to enhance connections and provide users with new tools for creativity, expression, and productivity within these popular applications.

In a blog post made on Thursday, Meta mentioned that Meta AI, unveiled at last year’s Connect event, has evolved into a versatile tool seamlessly integrated into users’ daily routines.

Powered by Meta Llama 3 technology, Meta AI enables users to complete tasks, gain knowledge, stimulate creativity, and establish connections effortlessly.

According to the statement, “The launch of Meta AI in English is happening in more than twelve countries outside the US. Now, individuals in countries like Australia, Canada, Ghana, Jamaica, Malawi, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, Singapore, South Africa, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe can access Meta AI—and this is just the beginning.

“Thanks to the new advancements with Meta Llama 3, Meta AI is now more intelligent, faster, and more entertaining than ever before,” the company declared.

Meta announced that its latest AI service is the most advanced AI assistant that people can use for free, now available in more countries across their applications.

With Meta AI integrated into feeds, chats, searches, and more across their apps, users can efficiently accomplish tasks and access real-time information without leaving the app.

Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Meta, expressed, “By expanding our Meta AI in English to new countries, we are thrilled to introduce our cutting-edge assistant to even more individuals, providing real-time information through seamless search integration in the beloved apps.

“We’re enhancing Meta AI with our innovative Llama 3 AI model, which we are open-sourcing. Additionally, we have introduced unique creation features, such as the ability to animate photos.

“With Meta AI, high-quality images are generated quickly, creating and updating them in real-time while you type. It can also produce a playback video of your creation process.”

The rise of AI has been groundbreaking, with major players like Meta, Microsoft, and Google revealing various products.

Despite the advancements, concerns have been raised by experts regarding AI, including issues around transparency, bias and discrimination, privacy, ethics, security, concentration of power, and the potential long-term implications of developing artificial general intelligence surpassing human intelligence.
