Message from Ooni on Unity


Highlighting the importance of unity, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, reminded Nigerians to avoid actions that may divide the nation, emphasizing the need to uphold the unity envisioned by the country’s founding leaders.

Encouraging the celebration of cultural diversity as a unifying factor, Oba Ogunwusi shared his thoughts during the grand finale of the annual Amasekumo festival of the Gbaramatu people in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State.

Praising the Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom, HRM Oboro Gbaraun II, for preserving his people’s cultural heritage, the Ooni, who serves as the co-chairman of the Traditional Council in Nigeria, stressed the importance of embracing the nation’s diverse cultural richness.

He expressed, “Our strength lies in our heritage and traditions, which play a crucial role in fostering unity, togetherness, and peace. These cultural practices bind us together and form the foundation of our nation.”

Emphasizing the generational impact of cultural celebrations, the Ooni highlighted the significance of passing down traditions to future generations. He urged the audience to appreciate and cherish the cultural diversity that defines the nation.

Recognizing the hospitality of the Gbaramatu people, the monarch extended his blessings to the kingdom and its inhabitants, lauding their contributions to national development.

In a show of solidarity, the Ooni commended the unity and support displayed by the sons of Gbaramatu Kingdom and expressed his desire for continued collaboration to promote peace and unity in Nigeria.

Attended by various royal fathers from the Niger Delta and across the country, as well as esteemed dignitaries like the Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr. Heineken Lokpobiri, the grand finale of the week-long festival witnessed a gathering of influential personalities.
