Mayorkun Takes Legal Action Against TikTok Influencer Nicki DaBarbie for Defamation

Popular singer and songwriter Adewale Emmanuel, known as Mayorkun, has filed a N1 billion lawsuit against TikTok Influencer Precious Kingsley, also known as Nicki DaBarbie.

Nicki DaBarbie recently accused Mayorkun and singer Skiibii of involvement in occult practices, alleging they tried to exploit her. She claimed to have escaped through prayer.

In a video posted on her Instagram reels, the influencer, supposedly at Skiibii’s residence, mentioned that legal action would be taken against her if she revealed details of their encounter.

She also expressed concerns about being portrayed as drug-addicted while at the hospital and threatened with shutting down her social media accounts.

Sharing her experience, Nicki DaBarbie wrote, “They will go to great lengths to defend themselves. I may not have strong evidence and could be at risk. They will tarnish my reputation to protect Skiibii.

“I went for a boat cruise innocently…I was naive and didn’t expect any harm. I trusted him because he’s a public figure, and money was not my motive. I’m not a prostitute.”

In response, Mayorkun sued Nicki DaBarbie for making defamatory remarks affecting his character and reputation.

The legal documents, signed by Mayorkun’s legal associates Oluwagbemiga Ogunlade and Kolawole Hassan of Monarchs & Stroud Legal Practitioners, were shared on the singer’s Instagram, highlighting the defamatory accusations made.

The statement read, “Your online post on April 19, 2024, labeled our client as a ritualist and accused him of bodily harm. These allegations are false and our client denies any involvement with you or the accusations made against him.”

“Your damaging comments have caused our client financial and emotional distress, tarnishing his reputation in society. Defamation is a serious offense with severe consequences under Nigerian Law.”

Mayorkun demanded that Nicki DaBarbie remove the offensive posts from all social media accounts within 24 hours, issue a public apology in two national dailies, cease further defamatory statements, and pay a compensation of not less than N1 billion for the emotional distress caused.
