Man kills 100-year-old father in Ogun over N70,000

In Ogun State, a 38-year-old man named Mathew Ifeanyi has reportedly murdered his elderly father over the sum of N70,000 that was in his possession.

The So-Safe Corps in Ogun State apprehended the man after he used a machete to kill his father.

Soji Ganzallo, the Commander of the So-Safe Corps, informed 9JA NEWS on Wednesday that the incident occurred on Tuesday, August 29, at 11, Ibikunle Street, Diamond Estate, along Olorunda Area, Ntabo, Ijoko in the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area.

Ganzallo stated that Superintendent Alabi Gafar, the Divisional Officer of the Corps at Alade/Atago/Ntabo Divisional Command, received information about “a middle-aged man attacking his biological father with a cutlass.”

Upon receiving this information, a patrol team was immediately dispatched “to rescue the helpless parent, 100-year-old Anthony Nnadike, and apprehend the son.”

“Unfortunately, when they arrived at the scene, the victim had already been rushed to the general hospital due to his injuries and was in critical condition. He was later pronounced dead by the doctor,” said Ganzallo.

Ganzallo revealed that the suspect initially resisted arrest but was eventually captured and interrogated.

During the preliminary investigation, the suspect confessed that his motive for his actions was his father’s failure to repay the N70,000 he had entrusted to him since July 22, 2022.

Ganzallo quoted the suspect as saying that he committed the crime because he had resigned from his previous job to start his own business, and his father could not provide him with the money.

The So-Safe spokesperson, Moruf Yusuf, stated that the suspect had been transferred to the Sango Divisional Police Headquarters for further investigations and possible prosecution.
