Man gets 18-month jail term for burglarizing restaurant

An individual identified as Oryiman Terkimbi, a 27-year-old carpenter, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison by the Makurdi Magistrates’ Court for breaking into a restaurant.

Residing behind Bandico Hotel in the Wadata area of Makurdi, the convict admitted to the crime.

Mrs. Eunice Ndaiyo, the Magistrate, proceeded to pass the sentence on the carpenter.

According to the prosecutor, Insp. Inedu Friday, the incident was reported on July 17 by Mercy Dominic, a resident near Dele Bookshop in Wadata.

The convict allegedly entered Dominic’s restaurant on Naka Road in Benue and stole various items, including a 5kg bag of Semovita valued at N7,000, 13 bottles of red oil worth N13,000, a Fanta bottle valued at N300, and five aluminum cooking pot covers with a total worth of N17,000.

“Following a police investigation, the defendant was apprehended, and he confessed to the crime,” explained the prosecutor.

The authorities managed to recover the stolen pot covers, five bottles of red oil, and the bag of Semovita from the culprit.

It was stated that these actions were in violation of Sections 355, 350, and 289 of the Benue State Penal Code, Law of 2004 as amended.
