Man, 27, Charged with Phone Theft by Nigeria Police

Charged for alleged theft, a 27-year-old man named Medoye Abayomi was brought before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos by the police.

Addressed as unknown, the defendant was accused of housebreaking and theft in two separate counts.

Pleading not guilty to the charges, the defendant faced allegations from the Prosecutor, ASP Clément Okuiomose, who informed the court that the incident took place on January 5 around 10:00 pm at Kilometre 20, Badagry Expressway, Okokomaiko area of Lagos.

The prosecution claimed that the defendant unlawfully entered the residence of Reuben Ochei with the intent to commit a crime.

The Prosecutor further alleged that the defendant stole items including an Infinix Smart 6 phone valued at N100,000, and other belongings whose worth is yet to be estimated, from the complainant.

These actions were reported to have violated Sections 308 and 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos in 2015.

Chief Magistrate Mr. T. A Popoola granted the defendant bail set at N200,000 along with two sureties of equivalent value.

The case was adjourned to May 21 for further proceedings.
