Leon Spinks, Former Heavyweight Champion, Receives Prostate Cancer Diagnosis

Prostate cancer has been diagnosed in former world heavyweight champion Leon Spinks, with the cancer having spread to his bladder.

This news follows a report in Sun Sport last month stating that the 66-year-old was hospitalized in Las Vegas in a critical condition.

Confirming the sad news about her 66-year-old husband, Brenda Spinks stated that he was first diagnosed in May.

‘It’s going to be a long road and a lot of work,’ Brenda Spinks said in a statement to USA TODAY Sports. ‘But we are bound and determined for the Champ to make a comeback!’

According to reports, Spinks has been discharged from the Las Vegas hospital and is now back at his family home in Nevada. He is anticipated to undergo cancer treatment on an outpatient basis.

Spinks, who secured Olympic Gold for the USA in 1976 and defeated Muhammad Ali in 1978, retired in 1995 with a record of 26 wins, 17 defeats, and three draws.
