DSS arrests man for creating, sharing fake video depicting President Buhari’s wedding to Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed

The Department of State Services (DSS) has apprehended a 32-year-old man named Kabiru Mohammed for his involvement in producing and circulating fake videos portraying the marriage of President Buhari to Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed, and Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Social Development, Sadiya Farouq.

The arrest follows a formal complaint from the Minister for Finance, leading to an investigation by the DSS. Dr. Peter Afunanya, the DSS Public Relations Officer, stated that the defamatory video circulated widely across Nigeria in 2019, causing significant embarrassment to the Minister of Finance. He disclosed that Kabiru Mohammed, a 32-year-old from Kano, confessed to creating and disseminating the defamatory materials. The investigation is ongoing to determine the motive behind his actions.

Dr. Afunanya urged Nigerians to desist from spreading false information through social media, emphasizing the detrimental impact of such falsehoods. He also stressed the importance of promoting patriotism and lawfulness to contribute to the country’s progress. Additionally, he assured that the DSS would work tirelessly with all stakeholders, particularly the media and strategic partners, to ensure lasting peace in the country.

Mohammed, remorseful for his actions, admitted to creating and sharing the videos, seeking forgiveness and acknowledging his mistake.
