Leon Spinks, Former Heavyweight Champion, Battles Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer has been diagnosed in former world heavyweight champion, Leon Spinks, with the condition having spread to his bladder.

Last month, the news of the 66-year-old’s sudden hospitalization in Las Vegas was reported by Sun Sport.

Confirming the sad news about her 66-year-old husband, Brenda revealed that Leon was first diagnosed in May.

In a statement to USA TODAY Sports, Brenda Spinks said, ‘It’s going to be a long road and a lot of work. But we are bound and determined for the Champ to make a comeback!’

After being discharged from the Las Vegas hospital on New Year’s Eve, Spinks is now back at his family home in Nevada. He is expected to undergo cancer treatment on an outpatient basis.

Spinks, who secured the Olympic Gold for the USA in 1976 and defeated Muhammad Ali in 1978, retired in 1995 with a record of 26 wins, 17 defeats, and three draws.
