Legal Proceedings: Five individuals accused of looting Ekiti government assets


Charged before the Magistrate Court of Ado-Ekiti by the Ekiti State Police Command, are five men accused of theft of construction materials owned by the state government.

The defendants, Bamidele Solomon, Folorunsho Dada, Sunday Idowu, Olaniyi Opeyemi, and Olaniyi Bamidele, were presented before Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun.

Facing three charges related to the alleged conspiracy to steal granite valued at N472,500 from the Ekiti State government property, the suspects pleaded not guilty.

The court was informed by the police prosecutor, Mr. Akinwale Oriyomi, that the defendants purportedly committed the offenses on the 5th of August, 2024.

Following their denial of guilt, the prosecutor requested a trial date to be set.

As per the prosecutor, the accused breaches the statutes within sections 421, 302 (1) (A), and 343 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.

With a bail set at N200,000 along with two sureties each, the Magistrate adjourned the case until September 6th for trial proceedings to commence.
