Lagos monarch refutes claims of fathering late singer’s son

Amidst the ongoing controversy surrounding the tragic passing of the late musician, Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad, and the paternity of his son, Liam Aloba, the Elegushi of the IkateElegushi Kingdom in Lagos State, Oba Saheed Elegushi, has denied rumors suggesting that he is the father of the late singer’s child.

In a statement released through his media consultant, Deyemi Saka, which was obtained by PUNCH Metro on Thursday, the monarch dismissed the insinuations circulating on social media that he might be the father of Liam, calling it a baseless attempt to tarnish his reputation by involving him in the paternity dispute.

Mohbad tragically passed away at the age of 27 in September 2023, leading to protests in various parts of the country as his fans demanded justice for the former Marlian Records artist.

Following his death, there have been a series of allegations and counter-allegations, with some claiming that he was bullied by his former boss, Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, and his associates, leading to his demise.

The paternity of Mohbad’s son has also been under scrutiny, especially after Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, insisted on a paternity test to confirm the late musician’s paternity of his grandson.

Among the reactions to the paternity dispute was an allegation implicating Oba Elegushi in the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death.

A TikToker, Oloriebimusicproduction2, made several posts on his TikTok page alleging potential involvement of the monarch in the late Mohbad’s demise.

It was also claimed that the monarch was using his influence to obstruct justice for the deceased singer.

In response to these allegations, the monarch clarified that they were unfounded accusations aimed at tarnishing his character.

Oba Elegushi revealed that a petition has been filed against individuals spreading these claims.

The statement read, “We wish to address a recent, desperate attempt to involve His Royal Majesty, Oba Saheed Elegushi, in the unnecessary paternity dispute concerning the son of Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad.”

“The false claims were circulated by individuals on the TikTok app, including Oloriebimusicproduction2, PEKINS RULES, and WESTO4LIVE, as well as Auto Success Ola, Olubukola Jesse, Teni Ologo, and Tolani Ilesanmi.”

“These allegations are baseless and are products of imagination.”

“HRM Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi has filed a petition against these individuals with the Nigeria Police and other relevant security agencies to defend his rights and protect him from cyberbullies, hoping for collaboration with international security organizations for resolution.”

In extending condolences to the late singer’s family, Oba Elegushi urged the public not to involve the traditional institution in the paternity dispute.

“It should be emphasized that Oba Elegushi, like many Nigerians, is saddened by Mohbad’s sudden death, demanding a thorough investigation and swift justice.”

“As we pray for strength for the Alobas to cope with this loss, we appeal to everyone to refrain from tarnishing the image of His Royal Majesty, Oba Saheed Elegushi, and the esteemed traditional institution he represents,” the statement concluded.
