Lagos and Abuja residents flout lockdown order, flock outdoors in large numbers to engage in physical activities and drive around

Online videos and photos depict Lagos and Abuja residents openly disobeying the Federal government’s lockdown directive.

A Twitter user @Engr_Series uploaded a video showing Lagos state residents exercising on the usually deserted Ikorodu road and noted:

”So much for social distancing. The gym moved to Ikorodu this morning, from Haruna down to Agric busstop… Is this really a lockdown?”

Meanwhile, in Abuja, a video shared by Abubakar Sidiq, the Special Assistant to the Senate President on New Media, reveals heavy traffic congestion at the overhead bridge along Citec road.

On March 27th, President Buhari issued a presidential directive to impose a lockdown in Lagos, Ogun, and Abuja to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the country. The lockdown is scheduled to expire next Monday, April 13th.
