Kano Police Apprehend Suspect Involved in Killing KEDCO Staff

Authorities in Kano have successfully captured Sadiq Zubairu, aged 35, who stands accused of the murder of Bello Bukar Adam, a 45-year-old staff member of Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO).

CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the spokesperson for the Kano State Police Command, reported that a resident of Zawaciki Quarters in Kumbotso LGA, Kano State, informed them that his elder brother, Bello Bukar Adam, a KEDCO staff member from Zawaciki Housing Estate, Kano, went missing after leaving his home with his Toyota Corolla on May 4, 2024.

On that same evening, there was a report of a male adult’s body found abandoned near the Eastern Bypass in Bechi Village, Kumbotso LGA, Kano State.

CSP Kiyawa mentioned that a team led by Divisional Police Officer SP Mustafa Abubakar recovered the body and took it to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, where a medical professional confirmed the victim’s demise.

Kano State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Usaini Gumel, mobilized a team led by SP Aliyu Mohammed Auwal from the headquarters to track down and arrest the suspects within 24 hours.

Subsequently, Sadiq Zubairu, residing in Hotoro Arewa Quarters, Nassarawa LGA, was arrested on May 6, 2024, at 9 am.

During initial investigations, Zubairu admitted to collaborating with two others to lure the victim, who was a close friend, to his residence where they carried out the fatal assault.

The suspect confessed to assaulting the victim with sticks and a sharp object until he was incapacitated. He then disposed of the body near Bechi Village and fled with the victim’s car and mobile phone.

Zubairu disclosed that the gruesome incident was triggered by his failure to repay three million naira he had fraudulently obtained from the victim under the guise of securing employment.

After realizing he could not refund the money, he orchestrated the murder, concealed the vehicle in a garage at Hotoro Quarters, Kano, and has since been recovered.
