Kano is not a cage – President Buhari and Governor Ganduje's aides react to cartoon on Sanusi’s dethronement

President Buhari and Governor Ganduje’s aides have responded to a cartoon depicting Sanusi’s dethronement, in which a character resembling Ganduje is shown in a cage labeled ‘Kano’. The cartoon, created by Mustapha Bulama of Daily Trust, features the Ganduje-like character locking the cage, while another character representing Sanusi walks away saying ‘you can stay there.’

In reaction to the cartoon, Salihu Tanko-Yakasai, the Director-General of Media and Communications for Kano state government, expressed that the cartoon is a mockery and an insult to the entire people. He emphasized that Kano is not a cage, but a state with a thousand-year-old history, engaged in trade and commerce with the world and known for producing great leaders and scholars.

Bashir Ahmad, President Buhari’s media aide, also questioned the portrayal of Kano as a cage, stating, ‘The entire Kano not the throne as a cage? Maybe I don’t understand the message’.
